Today is April 11, 2012. In nineteen days I'll officially retire. I guess I'll be OK with it but not sure. My work has defined me for the last ..... well Since Hazen Research when I was 23 years old.
For the last ten years I have (five days a week) come to my make shift desk (two folding tables forming an L), sat down and began a ritual of turning on two computers in preparation for my days work. I would scan my spiral note pads to see if anything had been left from the day before and then check my emails because that’s where my work would come from.
In 19 days I will have to change that procedure. I doubt that I'll ever change turning on my computer in the morning though. That's where I get the weather, Drudge, The Blaze, Victor Davis Hanson, silver price (which I've been watching daily since I started acquiring some). Though Vicky and I have the new Ipads I don't see them replacing the computer anytime soon. You really lack control and depth in an Ipad. The Ipad does have it's place though and some really good applications such as Garageband.
Vicky and I are planning a car trip to Key West. Kind of a kick off to retirement i guess. Sixteen days away from the cats and lots of opportunity for pictures with the new Nikon. Whoppee! (and I'll bet they're barely indistinguishable from pictures with the I phone. Ha! At the end of the summer we will be passing through P-Town on our way to Canada for retirement vacation II. Is all this simply to help Ernie cope with a life change??? Hopefully not.
